The Geneva Oil Desk at Castleton Commodities International (CCI) is seeking a Commercial Analyst to join our cross-barrel derivatives trading team, with a primary focus on the global crude oil and refined products markets. This junior role will play a critical part in supporting trading decisions by developing and maintaining analytical tools, signals, and dashboards that draw from both the financial and physical value chains of the energy markets. The role combines exposure to commodity markets, statistical learning, and rule-based trading strategies, while also contributing to thematic and structural trade ideas. It is well-suited for a commercially minded, technically skilled individual with a passion for both markets and data-driven insights.
Responsibilities
- Build, enhance, and maintain Python-based analytical tools and dashboards that generate trading features and signals.
- Integrate market data from both the financial markets (e.g., futures, options, spreads, volatility surfaces) and the physical oil value chain (e.g., flows, freight, arbitrage, refining margins).
- Contribute to the design of a rule-based trading system, including signal development and backtesting.
- Conduct research on macroeconomic, geopolitical, and industry-specific developments to assess their implications for crude oil and refined products.
- Collaborate with traders and senior analysts to identify and evaluate thematic and structural trading opportunities.
- Prepare market commentary, trade rationales, and periodic performance summaries for the desk.
- Ensure quality control, versioning, and documentation of analytical models and code.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Engineering, Statistics, or Economics).
- Working understanding of Python and its uses in exploratory data analysis, feature engineering and signal generation.
- Exposure to the crude oil and/or products markets in any capacity — market analysis, engineering or operations.
- Strong understanding of macroeconomics and its relationship to energy markets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, market-driven environment with tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and a commercial focus.
