Job Description
We are looking for a highly organized and hands-on Lab Manager to be the heart of our robotics R&D workshop. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-equipped environment where our engineers can innovate and build. This role is perfect for a skilled technician who excels at both workshop management and precision hands-on work, from operating prototyping equipment to assembling custom electronics. You will be the crucial enabler of our rapid prototyping cycles, ensuring our team has the tools, components, and support they need to succeed.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintain the overall organization, safety, and cleanliness of the workshop and electronics lab.
- Conduct safety inspections, create and maintain risk assessments for the entire lab and specific equipment, and enforce all safety protocols, including the use of PPE.
- Manage the inventory of mechanical parts, electronic components, and consumables, handling all procurement and ordering to ensure optimal stock levels.
- Operate and perform regular maintenance on key prototyping equipment, including 3D printers, soldering stations, and laser cutters.
- Ensure all lab tools and test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.) are calibrated and in good working order.
- Perform high-quality, skilled tasks to directly support the engineering team.
- Fabricate custom cable assemblies and wiring harnesses, including crimping, soldering, and sleeving to a professional standard.
- Assist with the mechanical assembly of robot prototypes and test fixtures.
- Help with soldering and rework of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBs).
What you must have
- A technical apprenticeship or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Polymechanics/Polymechaniker EFZ, Electronics/Elektroniker EFZ, Mechatronics) or equivalent proven practical experience.
- Strong hands-on skills in both mechanical assembly (using hand tools, power tools) and precision electronics work (especially soldering and cable making).
- Experience operating and maintaining common workshop equipment (e.g., 3D printers).
- Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and process improvement.
- A proactive, safety-conscious, and service-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own tasks effectively.
Get some bonus points
- Experience with inventory management software or systems.
- Official Swiss safety certifications for workshop machinery or electrical work.
- Experience working in a fast-paced R&D, prototyping, or startup environment.
- Knowledge of sourcing and managing relationships with suppliers for technical components.
We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
