Science in School is the European journal for science teachers, supporting teachers in the delivery of their curricula by connecting them to inspiring, cutting-edge science and technology. A collaborative effort by EIROForum, consisting of eight European research organizations, Science in School spans the full breadth of the life, physical, environmental and computational sciences and engineering.
You will report to the Executive Editor and work closely with the educational teams of the eight sponsoring organizations, and the CERN writing team. You will provide administrative and editorial support to assist the editor with the overall content acquisition and production of the journal.
You will join the International Relations Sector (IR), Education, Communications and Outreach Group (ECO) that is responsible for maintaining support for CERN's mission from all its stakeholders, generating public engagement with CERN's activities and with fundamental research, fostering community-building and raising awareness of CERN's societal impact.
As Science in School Editorial Assistant, you will:
- Engage in routine correspondence with authors, reviewers and subscribers.
- Copy-edit submitted articles.
- Check articles and video scripts as required, including formatting article references.
- Maintain and update documents and archiving systems.
- Do picture and video research, including securing and documenting rights to images or other supportive materials.
- Prepare and upload content to the website (including video).
- Compile a quarterly email newsletter.
- Generate analytics reports from website data.
- Contribute to running the journal's social media channels.
- Manage the article translation process.
- Provide other support to the editor as needed.

Your profile
Skills:
- Excellent English writing and editing skills.
- Previous experience in science communication and strong interest for education.
- Experience in text editing and proof-reading.
- Some experience and strong interest in Social Media.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all aspects of work.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adept at prioritising tasks.
- Thinking proactively and working both independently and as an integral part of a team.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Communication, STEM or other related (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
