Reporting to the Sr. Director of TECA Operations, the Operations Director will lead a team that is accountable for the robust supply of finished goods supporting over $3.6B in annual revenue.
They will develop a team of 2 External Operations managers to establish and drive strategies to deliver benchmark value through improved quality, customer service and responsiveness to reduce supply chain total cost and to increase profitability. They deploy dedicated continuous improvement specialists to help external partners drive process improvements and a lean culture.
Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership Relationship Management
- Lead and manage all aspects of external operations including commercial activities (RFPs, negotiations, supply agreements), capability assessments, sourcing strategy, inventory control, product quality, cost control and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with wider team to manage external manufacturing landscape to take advantage of efficiency, cost improvement and product development opportunities.
- Develop, foster and manage relationships with external partners at the executive level.
- Develop long term strategies that ensure year-over-year efficiency and capability improvements and enables the success the strategic plan.
- Conduct regular business reviews with and review overall operational executions to goals. This will include quality, EHS, supply/service, financials and major programs. This will also include driving performance over strategic horizon including capacity analyses, business continuity and any mitigation plans as required.
Planning and Scheduling
- Drive excellence in external partner supply planning – including master scheduling, capacity planning and distribution coordination.
- Implement standard methodologies with Plan organization in managing capacity, defining requirements and external partner performance.
- Develop supply agreement that meets On time In Full (OTIF) and perfect order requirements with minimized inventory investment.
- Represent operations in the Sales and Operations Planning process (S&OP) for external partners.
Sustaining Engineering, Partner Development and Supplier Quality
- Coordinate technical and quality groups to deploy engineering support with our partners to understand design issues, improve quality, reliability and overall performance.
- Execute seamless, timely transitions of design or process changes while ensuring all quality and regulatory requirements are met.
- Resolve technical sourcing problems in a rapid and thorough manner so as to mitigate risk and impact to business goals.
- Proactively identify component or raw material obsolescence issues and establish appropriate mitigation plans.
- Lead lean and six sigma specialists to drive groundbreaking change and cultural transformation
Experience and Competencies
- 10 - 15 years relevant experience; 7 in a people leadership role.
- Medical Device or Pharmaceutical experience required.
- Experience in supplier relationship management and with contracts and supplier agreements.
- Strong background and experience in complex program management.
- Ability to be effective in a global and somewhat ambiguous environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely across all levels of the company and across the global supply chain.
- Ability to lead and influence others in a complex organization.
- Track record of developing talent.
- Understanding of process excellence tool set (lean, six sigma) and of manufacturing systems and processes.
Education
- An undergraduate degree in science, engineering, business or supply chain subject areas required.
- Post-graduate degree preferred.
