 Challenge the Impossible
About Beyond Gravity
Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Beyond Gravity is not your typical space company. We're a unique blend of agility, speed, and innovation, fusing a start-up mindset with decades of industry expertise and a track record of 100% mission success. Our dynamic team of over 1700 professionals, spread across 13 locations in six countries, is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is technically feasible. We're not just building crucial products for the satellites and launchers industry, we’re helping to improve life on earth.
Your Crew:
By joining our multidisciplinary team of engineers, you’ll contribute to the development of our Satellite Solar Array Wings in a multicultural setting, engaging with a wide array of technologies. Our collaborative and lean organization encourages creativity and professional development, supported by highly skilled experts. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to work on your Master’s Thesis, pushing your limits and discovering something new each day, as each day brings unique chances to go Beyond.
Your Mission:
Development of a deployment simulation for Solar Array Wings
- Building blocks approach based on BGC flight hardware performances (component level testing results will be made available)
- Build a flexible model which can accommodate multiple type of wings and configuration (i.e. different size, number of panels, motorisation, damping, synchronisation,…)
- Ensure a user-friendly interface
- Generate documentation
- The development can be inspired from the existing Simulink Models already available at BGC
- The development framework is to be chosen and traded between the multiple available options (Simulink, Python, …)
- Understanding of torque budget as per ECSS standard
Deployment testing of Solar Array Wings
- Use of BGC Deployment Testing Facility
- Use of BGC solar array wing (testing model which can be build-up in different configurations such as variation on number of panels, torque at each hinges, damping, etc.
- Definition of all the configurations to be tested based on hardware
- Development of the measurement set-up ensuring a repeatable and exploitable data acquisition
- Understanding of the variability of the hardware between each deployment
- Understanding of the contribution of each component of the SAW
Correlation of deployment simulation behaviour with test results
- Verification of the accuracy of the deployment simulation
- Tuning of parameters of simulation
- Data extraction from deployment testing (mainly video based)
Your Story:
- Currently enrolled in a Master in Mechanical-, Aerospace-, or Mechatronics Engineering
- Interest for space industry and space standards
- Proactive attitude, good problem-solving skills and decision-making
- Knowledge of development framework codes (e.g., Matlab Simulink, Python,..)
- Ability to synthesise results and generate structured documentation
- Fluency in English, written and spoken (company language)
