Job Description Summary
We’re a dedicated and high-performing team, united by a shared commitment to create significant value for Novartis. As a strategic tax expert you will be responsible for driving global tax risk management, including the evaluation of potential tax risks and opportunities, and ensuring their accurate reflection in Novartis’ financial results during the quarterly closing process. You will also play a pivotal role in advancing our global tax certainty agenda by proactively mitigating transfer pricing disputes through bilateral Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) and initiating Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAPs) to resolve disputes, in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement tax governance through effective tax risk management, transfer pricing compliance, and APA/MAP strategies.
Conduct quarterly assessments of potential tax risks and opportunities, including SOX reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
Contribute to the Effective Tax Rate management by aligning with regional and local tax heads on tax audits and litigation updates.
Strategic advice on tax proceedings to proactively mitigate tax risk exposures in the context of tax risk prevention/resolution.
Design new transfer pricing concepts and provide guidance to global and local finance teams.
Ensure transfer pricing compliance via OECD Master File, Local File, CbCR, and DAC6.
Monitor OECD, EU, UN and local tax developments and assess implications on the Novartis tax strategy and tax policy.
Collaborate across finance functions, including Tax Accounting, External Reporting, ESG, Investor Relations, Operational Transfer Pricing and Treasury.
Essential Criteria:
Master degree in economics with additional qualifications (certified tax advisor or chartered accountant)
Extensive understanding of international tax matters and tax disputes.
Excellent understanding of OECD transfer pricing regulations.
Strong accounting knowledge IFRS/local statutory.
Strong understanding of operational transfer pricing matters.
Excellent informal manager, influencer and negotiator.
Strong management and communication skills and ability to work in cross functional teams.
English, German or other Swiss national language – fluent oral and written.
