Description
This position is ideal for a senior-level operations professional to join the Global Operations Planning Team as the Director of Global Planning, overseeing the global planning of Demand, Supply, Capacity, Equipment, and Facilities for Clear Aligner operations. In addition, the role will oversee global Direct Material Planning and Purchasing. While partnering with Global Finance, Trade & Compliance, Engineering, Production, Sourcing, and Logistics organizations, your team will provide detailed operational plans and insights that drive an optimized customer experience, cost-effective models, and high-quality products, ensuring the success of Align Technology’s operational execution. This role is vital in shaping Align Technology’s global operational footprint, enhancing operational execution, and improving customer satisfaction.
The role is fully based onsite (5 days per week) at the Rotkreuz Office.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and oversee the following Global Planning and Functional Activities:
- Translate global commercial demand forecasts, including new products, into Global operations demand plans for clear aligner manufacturing.
- Utilize periodic Sales and finance-generated sales plans to allocate global demand across the various production plants. While coordinating a Rough-Cut Capacity Plan with the production plants to provide a broader assessment of capacity and subsequent equipment requirements over a mid-term to long-term horizon.
- Develop and maintain the Global Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on S&OP planning outputs, optimizing manufacturing capacities and logistics costs.
- Utilize MRP planning systems to generate accurate material requirements plans based on demand forecasts, lead times, and capacity constraints
- Collaborate with Corporate Finance to define and execute the business processes of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP).
- Ensure local plant buyers consistently integrate the consensus forecast into their buying plans to maintain minimum and appropriate inventories.
- Collaborate with local plants and the Global Engineering Director on equipment requirements to ensure that equipment is delivered on time to the correct factory and that site engineering teams have the necessary resources allocated for installation.
- Execute demand allocation activity through GATP process configuration.
- Initiate and execute long-range scenario planning to optimize our global operational footprint.
- Continuous improvement initiatives within planning and forecasting processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
- Elevate the global processes by leveraging the existing global ERP system and business transformation as we execute our ERP upgrade program.
- Demonstrate our core values of Agility, Customer, and Accountability in decision-making, planning processes, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Required travel to Manufacturing plants in Poland, Mexico, China, and the US Headquarters.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in supply chain planning, production planning, or demand forecasting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Medical Device experience is desired.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of S&OP processes, SAP S/4HANA or SAP IBP or ECC ERP/APO/GATP planning systems, and production scheduling methodologies.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to align planning processes with long-term business objectives while balancing operational constraints.
- Cross-functional Leadership: Proven ability to work across multiple departments, including Manufacturing, Finance, and Sales, to drive planning initiatives.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and implement process improvements.
- Communication & Influence: Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior leadership.
- APICS/CPIM or CSCP certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with global regulatory and compliance requirements for manufacturing and supply chain operations in the medical device industry.
- Strong change management skills to lead process and technology transformation initiatives.
