The individual contractor will support UNCTAD's work in strengthening the capacity to measure productive capacities of developing countries, with a specific focus on Small Islands and Developing States (SIDS).

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of the Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development (PCSD) Branch and the Director of the Statistics Service, and the direct supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer, the individual contractor shall: Release of PCI 3.0 • Participate in testing the robustness of the final PCI 3.0 statistical pipeline • Contribute to the release of the updated PCI data on UNCTADStat website • Provide inputs for the PCI 2025 release manual • Assist in addressing requests from users and Member States after release of PCI data Enhancement of PCI 3.0 for pilot SIDS • Analyze the data received from pilot Caribbean SIDS in the dashboard • Assist in preparing a plan with pilot SIDS to test the inclusion of national data sources for selected input indicators in the global PCI • Collaborate with pilot SIDS to collect national/regional data, compare these data with the PCI input indicators from the master input dataset • Calculate an enhanced PCI using PCI 3.0 methodology for the four pilot SIDS based on national/regional data • Write a short report on challenges and findings SIDS Satellite PCI • Contribute to defining data sources and input indicators for the SIDS Satellite PCI, in alignment with the newly established framework. • Analyze data availability and quality of identified input indicators in SIDS • Collect and compile input indicator data for the SIDS. • Conduct correlation analysis and preliminary Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to assess the relevance, validity, and interrelations between the new input indicators. Organization of the regional expert meeting in advancing the measurement of productive capacities in SIDS: • Contribute to the preparation of background notes, PowerPoint sides and summary reports. • Take detailed notes during the meeting and draft a preliminary summary report. • Provide support with logistical arrangements and coordination. Data Visualization: • Assist in developing PCI data visualizations upon request.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced University degree, Master, in statistics, mathematics, econometrics or a related field is required. A minimum of 1 year of experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistical data or related area is required Experience in compiling and developing composite indicators on development issues is desirable. Fluency in using R is desirable.
Languages
Fluency written, excellent drafting skills, and spoken in English is required.
