Job Description
About this job:
- In this role you will be responsible for underwriting a diverse book of worldwide property, onshore energy and engineering treaty reinsurance with a focus on global and multi-national clients, a client segment in which PartnerRe is a recognized lead reinsurer.
- Your responsibility includes client and broker marketing in co-operation with account executives and senior management. You will form part of a collaborative team in which sound underwriting decisions are made in a dynamic environment reporting directly to the Head of Specialty Property, Engineering and Downstream Treaty.
About the role:
- Handle results-oriented underwriting by developing and monitoring a profitable portfolio of new and renewal business. This includes pricing of treaty programs with Pricing Actuaries/Cat Modelling, assessing contractual documentation and ensuring full compliance with all underwriting guidelines and procedures through proper documentation of your underwriting actions and decisions.
- Establish a senior market presence with key clients and brokers positioning PartnerRe as the reinsurer of choice for new profitable business falling within our defined risk appetite.
- Support and foster a culture of agility, straightforward communication, high performance, client centricity and solution oriented decision making.
- Pro-active collaboration with relevant corporate functions, e.g. Actuarial, Claims, Reserving and Technical Accounting to develop a holistic view on global clients and line of business financial performance.
- Support portfolio management warranting natural and man-made catastrophe accumulations stay within set risk tolerances.
- Analyse and monitor market trends, economic and legal developments and assess their impact on the business falling within your underwriting responsibility.
- Handle and supervise administrative tasks such as data input for contract administration in a timely, accurate and efficient manner to ensure a high level of data integrity for downstream reporting.
Qualifications
About you:
Technical Competencies:
- Relevant underwriting experience, strong technical skill set and deep understanding in at least one of the the lines of business Energy Downstream, Global Property and/or Engineering.
- Sound underwriting judgement weighting structural, coverage and pricing aspects on complex reinsurance transaction against financial objectives and underwriting standards.
- Strategic marketing and strong negotiation skills with brokers and reinsurance buyers. Sufficient gravitas with major clients and brokers to represent and develop the PartnerRe brand.

- Demonstrated ability of working as part of a high performing team in a diverse and multicultural environment underpinned by professional integrity and thoughtful, efficient and pro-active communication.
- Confident interaction and willingness to share one`s point of view and exchange constructively with colleagues, management, clients and brokers of different hierarchical levels also in controversial situations.
- Self motivated attitude with a high level of energy and the desire for ongoing development and personal growth.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under time constraints during peak business periods without compromising the quality of the work product.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% and at short notice during peak times.
Work Experience:
- Proven track record of 5 to 8 years of reinsurance/insurance underwriting experience in downstream energy, global property and/or engineering.
- Work experience in London, US or other key global markets as well as with global clients and specialist insurers is a plus.
- Experience in the primary insurance or facultative market is a plus.
Education:
- University degree with a reputable institution preferably with analytical and international emphasis.
Professional Qualifications:
Relevant industry designations e.g. A.C.I.I, CPCU, actuarial credentials and/or willingness to obtain one are a plus.
