About the JobAt Gravis, we engineer solutions at the intersection of hardware and software every day, bringing cutting-edge perception and control technologies to life on powerful autonomous machines. Our Rooftop Autonomous Control Kit (Rack) integrates sensors, compute, communication, and networking modules into a manufacturer-agnostic solution that can be deployed across a wide range of construction machines, regardless of type or age.
As a Senior Field Robotics Engineer, you will play a critical role in the deployment, integration, and operational success of our RACK platform across global customer sites. This role goes far beyond hands-on engineering: you will take ownership of end-to-end deployment coordination, collaborating closely with our R&D teams, and acting as a key liaison between customers, partners, and our product organization.
You will lead and oversee multiple deployments in parallel, ensuring every project is delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards. Your ability to align technical execution with business priorities will be pivotal in advancing Gravis Robotics’ mission to transform the construction industry through autonomy. In addition, you will actively refine and execute our on-site testing processes, ensuring that newly developed features meet—and consistently exceed—our rigorous quality standards.
At Gravis, we believe that great engineering happens not just behind a desk but also in the field— quite literally in the “trenches.” You will alternate between office-based coordination, hands-on integration and on-site testing work, and visits to our testing and customer locations, gaining firsthand insight into how our systems perform in real-world environments. This unique combination of technical leadership, field experience, and stakeholder coordination will allow you to continuously shape, improve, and scale our autonomous solutions.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of autonomy kit deployments at customer sites worldwide.
- Coordinate with internal R&D, product, hardware, and software teams to ensure timely delivery of new features and system improvements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers during deployment projects, translating technical progress into clear business updates.
- Conduct system tests and acceptance reviews with stakeholders, ensuring operational reliability.
- Manage dependencies and risks, proactively resolving blockers in collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Create and maintain detailed project documentation, performance dashboards, and progress reports.
- Drive continuous process improvements for deployment workflows, testing procedures, and customer feedback loops.
- Mentor junior field engineers, fostering a culture of technical rigor and program ownership.
Required Qualifications
- University degree (including degrees from universities of applied sciences / fachhochschule) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in robotics system deployment or program management (preferably in autonomous vehicles, heavy machinery, or industrial robotics).
- Proven track record of leading multi-stakeholder technical projects from planning to delivery.
- Solid skills in C++ and Python.
- Strong familiarity with the ROS ecosystem and Linux systems.
- Proficiency with version control (Git).
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical requirements into actionable project plans.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience in cross-functional and customer-facing roles.
- Willingness to travel internationally according to project needs.
- Valid driving license (category B).
Beneficial
- Experience with communication protocols such as CAN.
- Professional proficiency in German.
- Previous experience in a startup or high-growth robotics environment.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or equivalent.
