- support the global activities of UBS Social Impact & Philanthropy (“Social Impact”), including the UBS Optimus Foundation network of 9 foundations globally and an associated network of Donor Advised Fund platforms.
- provide front to back support for grant-making and all facets of social finance debt and equity investment activities in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
- support the development of innovative philanthropic products, including blended finance funds, impact bonds, outcomes contracts, convertible grants and public-private partnerships.
- support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, including the geographic expansion of the Optimus Foundation network through the establishment of new foundations.
- advise senior management and philanthropy advisors on the legal, regulatory and policy requirements for client engagements of different types in a number of jurisdictions.
- collaborate with UBS legal department colleagues to develop and provide the most efficient and effective legal support for Social Impact activities globally.
Your team
You’ll be working in the Social Impact legal team in Zurich, Switzerland. We focus on delivering high-quality legal advice and solutions to the Social Impact team globally in coordination with UBS legal department colleagues. As a legal counsel, you’ll play an important role in making sure our business clients receive timely, accurate and coherent legal service across multiple time zones and jurisdictions.
Your expertise
- 10+ years’ experience working as corporate counsel with an international bank or wealth manager, ideally in Europe, the US or APAC.
- have extensive experience with grant making and social finance transactions as legal counsel, with a particular focus on transactions in the global South.
- be knowledgeable about the regulation of philanthropic foundations and not-for-profit organizations globally and their cross-border activities.
- hold a law degree or equivalent for the jurisdiction.
- possess the ability to act as a strategic partner to the senior-most management and provide, or facilitate the provision of, advice on a broad range of adjacent legal subject matters in multiple jurisdictions including banking, securities and tax law.
- knowledge of securities, banking and tax laws and regulations in the US as well as significant experience in investing in South Asia and Africa are desirable.
- able to successfully attain quality advice from regulators and external legal counsels.
- motivated and skilled at driving a proactive solution-orientated process.
