The Position
The Institute of Human Biology (IHB) at Roche in Basel, Switzerland, is offering an internship position for a highly motivated researcher to join the ‘Patho-biology of Endodermal Organs’ team led by Hans Clevers. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to learn and contribute to cutting-edge organoid technology, focusing on the development of advanced human liver organoid systems to model development and disease. Your research will involve the culture, characterization, and CRISPR/Cas9-based genome engineering of fetal and adult liver organoids. The aim is to develop robust reporter lines and test differentiation conditions, creating new tools to explore liver biology and screen for therapeutic targets.
Your Profile
You are a creative and driven M.Sc. student or recent graduate (within the last 12 months) in biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or a related life sciences field.
- You have experience in primary cell culture. Experience with complex model systems, such as organoids, is highly desirable
- Prior experience with CRISPR tools, flow cytometry, microscopy, and gene expression analysis (e.g., qPCR or RNA-sequencing) is a major plus.
- You are proactive and able to plan and perform experiments with a high degree of independence, including the interpretation and documentation of your work.
- You are fluent in English, highly curious about science, and can derive novel approaches and ideas from published literature.
Your Impact
You will contribute to the development and validation of our complex liver organoid models. Your work will involve characterizing liver organoids, applying CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to generate reporter lines, and testing different media formulations to drive their differentiation and maturation. This role offers an opportunity to gain experience at the intersection of stem cell biology, genetic engineering, and disease modeling.
Your Application
To apply, please provide the following documents:
- A CV and a Motivation Letter (including the names of 2 references).
- A certificate of enrollment (if you are currently studying).
- For Non-EU/EFTA citizens: A letter from your university stating that an internship is mandatory for your studies, including the required duration.
Employment: 100%
Start date: As soon as possible; flexible
Duration: 9-12 months
